I don’t know about the places between here and there, but I fish the Saluda from behind the zoo on up to the dam from a kayak. I know they are getting some in the Congaree right now, but I would guess it’s a little early for the Saluda. I usually start down there later in the spring. The easiest places to put in are behind the Zoo, Gardendale and Saluda Shoals Park or Corley Mill Rd.
If you decide to make the drive to try it I can give you more specific info on where to put in and some spots to try. I have a big enough cock pit to carry about a dozen live herring in a 5 gal bucket, but I also have done well with soft jerk baits, so I use them quite a bit too.
One thing to keep in mind is the lake is up very high right now and with some hot weather and/or heavy rainfall there’s a lot more chance of SCE&G running enough water at times to make it unfishable from a kayak.
http://www.franksflyarts.com i have seen this guy alot around columbia and have actually thought about going a couple of times. may not be what your looking for but i bet he puts you on some fish from your yak, trout and striper. but you have to come to columbia. i talked to him at the sportsmans classic and he says he even takes and hour thats not in your fishing time nor do you have to pay for it to make sure you got the right fly casting down.
