Striper on the Wando

Caught a tagged 23" Striper in the Wando 1/16. What a surprise. Was fishing for reds and trout. Last thing I expected. Hit a gulp saphire shine on a jig head.

NICE!

That’s awesome. Anyone else ever caught stripers up that way? Ive seen a few reports here and there of people catching em, but I think noone targets them…

Finally got the info back from DNR about the striper. It was one of a group that was just released at Paradise Landing on Nov 18.

Nice, did they say how many they released?

Local Boy, Just having fun.

I’ve been cathing them all winter long up that way. Great fight on light tackle. Any type of swimming shad soft bait has produced…caught a few on top water baits as well.

A 23" fish just released?

Bump.

What do y’all think? Are these fish hanging out above or below Paradise landing?

What I was thinking! They must be attempting to decrease mortality rates by releasing bigger fish. That or it was just recently tagged near paradise landing.

I caught a tagged one below the 41 bridge a few yrs ago and DNR said that was as low down the river as they have had for a recapture. So that should answer your question.
