Striper reel/line question.

I know that stripers can be really line shy, but am trying to find a way to use one set of reels for stripers and catfish. I will be fishing lakes marion and moultrie and will probably target cats more than stripers. How about if I spool the reels with 65# power pro(which i use for cats) and on the occasions where I striper fish, I will use 15 pound floro leader (@48") from the swivel to the hook. Sound like it will work ok, or will everyone around me be catching fish with straight mono while I spook them off with my power pro?

valid opinions please.

I use that set up for surf fishing, without the swivel.

i’d tie the floro directly to the braid with a uni to uni

if you do use a swivel use black, and if you don’t mind having 4 ft or line dangling from the tip top.

The length of your leader never needs to be more than 36inches. Water clarity dictates which lb test fluorocarbon leader you should use. Ultra clear water = 8-10lb somewhat clear= 12lb( max) stained= 15lb. I use 12lb vanish at Lake Murray and catch fish without problems. The fish will never know and dont care whats above the leader…you can use 100lb test if you like.Always use a good name brand very sharp hook and keep your bait frisky!I use ball bearing swivels but its not mandatory for catching stripers.

I use flourocarbon as well as just plain clear line but most of the time my leaders are only 2’ long. I will use a longer leader when trolling during the summer with roadrunners/jigs and stretch lures.

Some of the guys arond here swear by the Yozuri pink flurocarbon leader line. I have not tried it yet
