Stripers again

Left Charleston at 4:30 in the am and in the river in Columbia by 6. Blue clouser was the best this morning, ended up with 4, 2 keepers (released) and 2 shorts. Had a nice fish on that spit the hook after first run, which got deep in the backing. Not sure what happened?? It was a bit over cast, but a nice morning.

Using 7 and 8 wts for the stripers ??

8 wt. A 9 would be nice to be able to throw heavier flies and help with the current though.

What size clousers were u throwing if u don’t mind me asking

The larger ones seem to be getting the bigger fish, about 4-5 inches long.

I went yesterday and today. Caught 4 in all. 2 were caught on white clousers and the other two with a zara spook on a conventional rod. The fish bite in a narrow window of time starting before first light. striper are very fun to catch. I had a great time being out on the river.

ScottyD I triple dawg dare you to go fishin with me… there I said it now we HAVE to go!!!

Yes, y’all do have to go. It is so much fun fishing for something different than what we fish for here in the salt every once and awhile, and especially when the targeted fish puts up as good of a fight as a redfish. I advise trying to be on the river no later than 5:45, and start out throwing top water. The striper were going crazy on top water. The fishing window only lasted a short time though. The latest I caught a fish over a 3 day span was 7:30 am. From what I experienced, and what on a fishin mission said, the size of your fly/lure is proportional to the size of fish that goes after it. I hope y’all do end up getting up there for it, because it is a hell of a good time.
