Stripers Biting?

Not many fishing reports since the weather warmed up a bit. Does that mean thy are not biting or your too busy cleaning fish?

I went night fishing thursday and caught 10 between two of us. 7 keepers. Tough fishing after the cold front came through though.

I FISHED SUNDAY FROM 3:30 TIL ABOUT 5:30 AND CAUGHT 5 STRIPERS BUT ONLY 1 KEEPER. MISSED A FEW SHORT STRIKES. FISHING SHOULD IMPROVE OVER THE WEEK WITH THE WEATHER. WATER TEMP WAS 58.

I think all that really happened is sharkey stopped posting all those good pics, and the striper forum got boring

I think your right. Sharkey must have his freezers full.

What areas are they roaming now?

I think they are just about everywhere. Thursday night I caught them around the dam. Friday not much happening there. Saturday caught a few up lake around SCE&G #3, but read a lot on the fish finder. The water was muddy up there. I heard around dreher down to bomb and around goat island has all produced fish. I think you just need to be in the right place at the right time.

I fished Friday afternoon, the 16th. Cold, windy, and sometimes wet. Ended up catching 4 fish. Three were legal. One was a season maker that was not weighed, but was at least 25 lbs, probably closer 30. My personal best is 28 lbs (weighed - not estimated) and this one seemed larger and heavier.

Didn’t catch many, but the quality was certainly there.

Nice fish, what were you getting them on, and how deep of water were you fishing?

Where is the bass class, also let me know when striper 102 start. That is if i can pass 101.

Even though they are up river there are still some fish scattered in the lake. And the rivers are pretty muddy.

I’ll sign up for bass-class cause I didn’t catch jack today except a white bass on a broken back rapala and I also hooked a huge carp in the tail. What a fight!

Trolling u-rigs 15’ down at 2.8 mph. All fish were caught in 20’ to 30’ deep water. Mostly near humps, drop offs, and deep brush. Near Hollow Creek.

Also meant to mention… I am using single hook u-rigs now, similar to what is used up north for bay stripers. I don’t seem to catch as many “shorts” as with multi-hook rigs. Less fish, but better quality (larger) fish. Always experimenting…

Striper 101–This course is offered as an elective.

The fish are in full spawn mode. They are up the rivers, way, way up the rivers. They will return with vigor just after the full moon (the first week of april). Although the hybrids cant actually reproduce, they still go thru the motions.

Next week we will be discussing the value of herring vs live shad when targeting suspended pre-spawn bass. Dont miss it. Classes generally fill early so sign up now.

‹(•¿•)› LURKER ALERT

I hope that you aren’t talking about Murray. The fish are everywhere but up the river, nor are they killing them on the congaree or Saluda. We caught 24 tonite between 5:30 and 7:30, with over half legal. Also, they weren’t caught on herring, shad, umbrellas, goldfish, deep divers, or any of that other junk getting pulled around the lake right now. And there are no hybrids in Columbia.

…and that’s a pro tip.

they were probably getting caught on jigging spoons.

They are’nt hybrids. They can and do spawn. Problem is that striper need about 50-60 miles of free flowing river for the spawn to succeed. That’s why they succeed in the Congaree. Hey Tag a long. How about a hint on this secret method???

redstripe you have mail and please don’t post the location.

Not a spoon on the boat. I can tell you that the rod never leaves your hand.

Tag a long,
Were you out friday night. If not someone else was killen them with your technique.

Sharky,
How did you do in the tournament? What team are you?

EF,

My roommate at USC studied them in the late 80’s when they figured the whole thing out. Sharky, try that e-mail again. Thanks.

Redstripe, if you have yahoo email it will go to the spam folder. Look there.
