stripers in Ashley

Fearing rain I stayed very close to home and was surprised with 4 small stripers this morning as well as a bream and large catfish using sliders. I’m pretty sure these are from the DNR release and hoping they grow.

Been seein them WAAAAAYYYY up the Wando as well… Spoke to the Striper biologist from DNR and he said they are trying to get them to stick in all the rivers…

What exactly is a slider? and what specific color? thanks (I live near ashley too and would like to try this same rig)

If i had to guess I would say a Carolina rig.

a slider is usually a spun deer hair fly that has a cone shaped front end that will “slide” under the water and then pop back up… it simulates a small bait fish cruising the surface feeding…

If it catches stripers , bream , and cats … It might be a small slider jighead with the paddletail grub ???

Google Charlie Brewer sliders

that’s the one I’m talking about

Caught a nice eater size blue in the ashley, maybe 5 pounds. The fillets were white and the fish itself was clean and healthy. I hate how there is so much trash out in the ashley, I saw a 50gallon plastic drum floating down the river!

have there been any recent reports on the Ashley’s condition compared to the one about the Cooper?
