Stripers newb help

How do u you striper fish without trolling? What rig what bait how deep?

If your live bait fishing, u can freeline herring or fish them straight down…Cut bait works well too…If the fish are schooling, you can throw alot of differnt type of artifical lures on them ( flukes, swim baits, spoons, bucktails, most top water baits work well)… Winter months you can chase the birds to find the fish…

This time of year you probably want to use down lines. Use a carolina rig with a 1.5 to 2 oz egg sinker above the swivel and a size 1 or 2 circle hook. Drop lines right above where you see them on the FF.

Great thread for us fishermen used to catching other species. Thanks for sharing. When trolling, how fast do you troll bucktails, Rapalas, swimbaits, etc.? Above the fish? I fished with a guide live bait, real slow and drifting, and he set the bait below the fish on the sonar. Was he correct?

Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.

2.3 to 2.5 mph trolling for me

I’ve always heard to put the bait above because the fish are looking up for bait contrasting against the sky. But sometimes smaller fish are on top of the bigger fish so maybe that is what he was doing.
