Just got back from Chatham, MA. Heard the stripers were schooling 1-2 miles offshore so I chartered a boat and me, my dad and 4 others left the dock at 7 AM. lines in about 7:30 and the bite was non stop. caught about 25 stripers, 40 dogfish and 2 bluefish. Used a diamond jig with green tube on light tackle. It was a blast. We kept 8 stripers, 2 bluefish and released the rest. Most stripers were in the 35-40 inch range, largest was 41+ inches. probably about 40 boats out there, many fish we caught and released had torn lips, some in several places, showing they had been caught several times before and released. Limit was 2 fish per person per day.

4 or 5 about 14" or so. All hooked in the lip and released. Good looking fish, like me short and fat. Beautiful night on the water and it really smoothed out after midnight.

Had a good time and it was a beautiful night on the water, but fishin was tough (for us anyway). Denflatlander caught a couple of keepers early in the evening and dropped off what I thought was gonna be some leftover lucky baits, but they didn’t even help.
Ridiculously small fish. 2 times we had fish so small we didn’t even know they were on the line before they wrapped up 3 lines into a mess.
Cboom, that had to be a blast getting those fish jigging with light tackle. Whats a full day striper charter go for up there these days? $1k?

1/2 day (4 hours) was $525, 6 people max, 32 ft boat, capt only, no crew. At $15/lb at the local markets we took in about 45 pounds of fillets so had fun and turned a profit! Not sure what a full day is but given you can only keep 2 per angler and we were all fished out when our time was up 4 hours was a good amount of time. 18-19 hour drive from Beaufort. lots of 20 ft boats in the crowd assuming wind is 5-10 kts which it was. The same area (a few miles north off nauset beach) has a good school of Blue Fin Tuna - avg 150lb size. Day I was out 40 boats fishing for BFT caught 1 fish so not a strong bite. They were fishing with live blue fish on a kite or balloon for the BFT.
