Anyone tried fishing for stripers on eels in lake murray. I see a lot of people using that bait in the ocean. I think I would like to give it a try sometime , they sure are easier to keep alive thats for sure. Anywhere in columbia or lake murray to buy eel?
Trouble with eels is the fish will most likely take the bait all the way down and then you have a gut hooked fish! Maryland won’t let you use them for that reason 16 Dec through 15 May.
Never seen anyone on Murray do it but I have seen people in the Saluda river do it.
I have also caught a couple of those things in the Saluda…hit cut herring…they can get pretty big! Slimy as can be too.
Put them on ice and you’ll slow them down enough to pick one up and put it on a hook:wink:
If eels become the prime bait on Murray, I am done.

Yep! You think your paying to much for bait now!
We tried them one time during the Hooter’s Tournament a couple of years ago, but didn’t do anything with them. Got them from a place in Florence. Don’t know the name of the place or if it even still exists, but you can probably do a search online and find out. Also, may want to check if it is still even legal to use them on the lake. I’ve use them in saltwater growing up and they are striper candy up north.
I posted this a few years back. FF past the first 2:30 or so to get to the part where they are catching the stripers on eels. Don’t think it’s viewable from a mobile device.
