Stripr season starts on Santee Lakes Marion and Moltrie in two (2) days; Good luck
Bought a trailer at Harry’s this summer. Gonna try stripers Monday and wonder what would be best to get my wife involved. Head to the dam and troll deep divers or drift with white jigs? Of course I will have top water ready in case of schoolers.
Fishing for stripers areound the spill way area would be good; Deep divers and white jigs will be allright and live bait works as well. I fished up lake about 7 miles east of the I-95 bridge and cought 12 stripers in two (2) hours with the biggest being 25 inches. I used live Blueback Herring and had 4 on at one time.

Channel cat, where did you get the herring?
You can find Blueback herring at the Santee Gereral Store in Santee; The HESS station
had a full time resident at Harry’s tell me all the stripers are in the lower lake (Moultrie). Not totally true I’m sure but I do wonder if the dredging at the lower end of the diversion canal will stop stripers from moving up into Marion.
There are Stripers in the upper lake (Marion): Just yesterday I caught 12 Stripers just east of the 95 bridge. Their have schooling Stripers chassing shad as well. The biggest was 27 inches.
I talked with a guy Tuesday that caught several in the canal.
My neighbor goes out every day around 4:00 or 5:00 and catches them. I live on Eutaw Creek

Are the stripers still biting on Lake Marion…where…what bait…are they schooling…lets keep this topic alive…
I’ve been catching a few near Harry’s Fish Camp, all shorts but great fighters. Caught several on jerkbaits and a few on topwater using a Chuggin Spook Jr. I haven’t got a clue about any pattern or particulars but eventually I’ll learn.
follow the birds!
Stripers are still running on Lake Marion and Moultrie; In the past week some of the biggest Stripers that have been caught in years have been landed. I landed one that was 32.5 inchs long weighting 15 lbs this past Saturday. Other reports of Stripers in the 30 inch size have also been reported. This has been one of the best Fall fishing in years.
I’m still learning but have managed a few keepers and have lost count how many shorts, all on artificials. I’m 63 and it’s my first year targeting stripers now that I have a place up at Harry’s.
addictive,isn’t it!!!
Striper are still running on Lake Marion, some are being caught in the Wyboo area as well as the river channel around the spillway. I use live gizzard shad and busktail jigs. Some people are using jigging spoons as well. good luck.

I used jigging spoons last week along the river channel near the spillway. No stripers but a 45# and 25# blue cat. I had surgery Friday and it will be a couple weeks before I can go again but I marked a lot of fish, especially about 15-20 ft down in 25-35 ft of water.
