Stripping basket

I am looking for a stripping basket for flats fishing for reds, anyone have some recomendations? Thanks

I saw a How-to in a magazine where they took one of those plastic shopping baskets you carry around, and threaded a belt through it. Seemded to work really well and doubled as a gear carrier back to the car. If you swing by one of the dollar stores you should be able to pick up a suitable basket for a buck. Check it out. Either that or there are several online places you can buy a stripping basket. I am all about inexpensive home made gear, it’s kinda like fly tying… There isn’t a better feeling than catching a fish on something YOU tied, same thing with gear… it feels better when you make it and it WORKS! Tight lines Brother…

I don’t lie about the fish I catch… I just remember them bigger…

If you are fishing from a boat, go to Target and buy a round, collapsible mesh, laundry basket. Take a piece of garden hose that will make a perfect circle in the bottom of the, fill it with lead, connect the ends, put it in the bottom of the basket. This will keep the basket in place in any wind that you can fly fish in. If you are wading, I suggest a manufactured basket. I have both the William Joseph ($32) and Kennebec River ($35) and each work great. The problem with hard plastic boxes and cheap baskets is they just are not user friendly or stable enough for the wading fisherman or even the boat fisherman. I can promise that once you learn to use a stripping basket effectively, you will enjoy your fly fishing much more.

Or you could go buy one…
