Struggling with reds but trout are cooperating

Redfish seem to be absent (or not willing to show themselves) from where I’ve been looking for them in the marsh and with the really hot water (87 deg surface temp today) I am guessing they are living a bit deeper and not showing themselves which is how I have been looking for them (tailing) and striking out.

Looking forward to cooler weather and hopefully a better bite that suits my style of fishing so in the mean time I have turned my attention to trout fishing as they seem to be willing to play ball particularly in the morning hours.

Caught a few today. Here’s one that came on a topwater plug. Released them all and got off the water before it got super hot.

I’m right there with ya Chuck. Trout seem to be not as bothered by the heat. Haven’t seen a Red yet. Keep it up though!

Yep, the guys around here are catching the reds deeper around docks & in creek channels off of the bottom with Carolina Rigs and live bait. Seems the word is that plenty of bait and the heat has the reds moving VERY SLOW and staying totally bottom oriented.

I’m personally not a big fan of C-Rigging which takes me back many years in my offshore bass tourney days (thank goodness for football head jigs & deep crank baits). I’m also not real big on using live bait if I don’t have to and the trout will chase which is what I’m after; reaction bites. Have nothing against live bait, just prefer artificial presentations and enjoy fooling them as do fly fisherman with fake stuff.

Trout remind me a lot of spotted and small mouth bass with their behavior. Very aggressive and will travel if they can see a bait. That makes for some really fun angling and probably some good table fare too. Hope to post some pics of some larger trout as I’ve been on the 12-16" class for the most part which are plenty of fun.

Nice catch. I can’t catch a good trout!

I’m a high class redneck.

Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.

I have been seeing (Unfortunately not catching) reds up on the flats tailing. In the creeks though I’ve had about the same luck; no reds, just trout. Seems to be alotta bonnetheads out right now, which I don’t mind a bit.
