struggling

I dont know what it is, but I have been struggling with the reds lately. Are they under the docks or hiding in the back creeks, usually a good ole gulp shrimp works great on the grass line, but not for me lately. Any help would help.

same here, they’re not taking mud minnows very often. i’ve only hooked 2 in the past month on live mud minnows in the flats. apparently, they’re hiding in deeper water near structure. i’ve been meaning to get back out on the water & hit some docks or the jetties as i suspect i’ll have better luck there than the flats & grass banks i’ve been fishing. i hear cut mullet is working in deeper water

The reds have been transitioning from Winter pattern to Summer pattern the last few months, and IMO its taking longer because the water has been cold for this time of year. I’d look for them in the usual summer pattern. Deep water around structure. and up in the grass on the big tides. Grass lines between tides. etc.

good points, the 2 i hooked were in grass in about 1 foot of water just after high tide as the water started leaving my favorite flat

On the really big tides they can get to a lot of bait (fiddlers) and fill their bellies full. It makes for some challenging fishing. If you go after them in the grass on the first few big tides, you’ll have better luck catching the tailing fish. The next three weeks will be better.

There at the jetties. Caught 3 on Friday 33,34 & 35 inches

grasslines are strong as soon as there is enough water for the fish to be in there. On the bottom of the tide docks in creeks have been strong.
