Stuck on Wadmalaw - Guess I'll Fish

Lots going on and been stuck out on the island for a few days helping family, so I drug the boat down with me. Not too many glorious reports, but I did do some fishing…

Thursday late afternoon headed out to a rising tide. Caught a keeper 16" flounder right off on a MM on a float, followed by a couple of dink trout. Then the spottail showed up. Caught a dozen or so, all slot, one overslot that was a lot of fun on my new St. Croix Triumph ML and Penn Conflict 2500. All caught on MM under a float, overslot caught on MM on the bottom. Cut bait/finger mullet yielded nothing.

Saturday morning put in just before high tide with no bait. Someone robbed my MM trap…AGAIN. Time for a new spot I’m afraid. After failing to find bait, even menhaden, I hauled tail to Bohicket to find some MM. $4/dozen isn’t terrible for marina prices, but the MM were so small that some of them couldn’t even be hooked…terrible.
Anyway, managed to snag 4 nice reds once tide started moving out good. All on MM on a float. Cut bait and frozen shrimp yielded nothing.

Sunday morning headed out by myself for some much needed mind-clearing alone time. Before I even reached the landing I was upset…this time someone STOLE my mud minnow trap…ugh. Even stashed strategically and using camouflage paracord for string, they found it and wanted it more than me I guess. Floated boat and headed to Bohicket for some micro minnows…

First spot yielded nothing, but water was flowing good when some guy (I think a guide) came barreling through and into the small creek I was fishing…no wave, no hi how ya doing, nothing…pissed me off again, so I left.

Decided it was time to go check out the back of Ocella creek and see if they have begun working on the bridge…NOPE, it’s still out. But there is a skid-steer parked at the gate, so only a matter of time before they get to work on it. I wish I knew who to contact to ask them to make it taller so we can boat under it…

thank you for the good read

sorry about your minnow trap

i’ve quit replacing the minnow traps. gets old buyin em for the thieves.

I caught a kid stealing my minner trap red handed @ dock street park on james island several years ago. Made him call his granny to tell her what he did and to come pick him up.

I bet his ears are still ringing.

I’ve bought bait at bohicket quite a few times and found the minnows to be small.

Hate hearing about these thefts. I had several crab pots stolen and finally got tired of buying people crab pots. It’s a shame people can’t respect other people’s things. Thanks for the very good read!!

I look for a small feeder creek with oyster shells, off a main creek, with a straight away of a few hundred feet. Put the trap out at low tide with enough water to just cover the trap openings. Throw the cast net as a bonus, while keeping the minnow trap within seeing distance. I never throw the cast net close to the minnow trap.
