Stung by a lion fish! After 25 years of playing with fire, I finally got burned. Maybe I should have zigged when I zagged. I had gloves on and a pair pliers, went to remove this 5 pound lionfish from my friends Line, never even felt the stick, just noticed a burning in my left index finger. I removed my glove and lo and behold I was bleeding. Within a few minutes it felt like somebody pushed a red hot nail through my knuckle. Within 15 minutes all the knuckles on my left hand felt like they had been smashed with a hammer and my hand was lit on fire. My finger is swollen up to the point where I cannot bend it. My hand looks like a jelly donut. This happened at 9 o’clock this morning and I am sitting in the emergency room now and it still hurts like hell. I have learned my lesson and I will never ever ever put another lion fish in the boat.
P.S. we still managed a four-man limit of Scamp grouper!
Sorry to hear that. I wonder if hot water would work to denature the venom.

That does suck…but I’m with shevy, a pic would be awesome, haha! Kind of like those safety bulletins that show you the extreme result to shock you into not doing something.
Last trip we fished, I was cutting the spines off one with some scissors and the spine brushed my hand. It started to burn, but stopped after about 2 hrs. I know a full on sting would light you up. Feel better!
If the SOB is going to put me in the ER, you can bet you’re azz I’m not giving it away! It’s gona get ett by me, at that price[:0] Are the spines the only thing you have to worry about on a Lion Fish! Where does the poison come from? Are there little sac’s, at the base of the spines?

Ill mess with it tomorrow, really tired I helped a friend get his big boat out of the water today and towed up to a farm in Santee. I am down about 75 pounds from start weight and I feel great except for my extremely sore left hand. It is still very swollen and stiff, feels like broken bones. I will state again, I will never ever ever ever ever bring one in the boat again.

75 pounds is amazing! I’ve dropped 15 and have another 15 to go if I get where Heart Doctor told me. I always picked on people trying to loose weight. Not any more. Probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
You shooting any future lion fish made me laugh! and DFreedoms idea of using a shotgun is even funnier.
