I didn’t know Sturgeon were in this area until I saw this one float by me yesterday while I was in the harbor.
I live near Augusta, GA and see them regularly in the Savannah River.
They are definitely around. I have seen one breach in the deep channel of the Cooper.

I’ve seen them breach in ICW… geez it was unreal… people didn’t believe me when I 1st saw one (I didn’t know what the heck it was) but since have seen them do it close to the boat. There is a vid on UToob of a local Beaufort guy where his daughter almost got T-Boned by one WHILE HE WAS RECORDING! Here t’is:

I’ve seen them in the harbor, in the Stono, in the North Edisto, in the South Edisto, and even up by Willtown landing. It’s surreal when they breach next to you when you’re running 45MPH…

The most I’ve ever seen at one time was two years ago Mother’s Day weekend. We stayed on Big Bay Creek down from Edisto Marina, the first week trip with the green Bentz-Craft; we took an evening ride through ■■■■■■■ Cut and took a left in the tail end of the Ashepoo. We were just cruising along and saw one…then another…then another. We quit counting at 20.
The very next day I was by myself fishing low tide. I went into St. Pierre creek and hung a left into what I think is Bailey Creek. I was running almost 45 when one breached literally 2 feet off my starboard gunnel. I passed by it at head height…it would have surely knocked me out of control at the very least. It shook me up really bad and I actually headed back to the dock and didn’t fish again that day.
It would be very cool to catch one…they fight like a sumbithc I’m sure…

Years ago I shot a sturgeon with a load of 00B on our hunting club.He smoked up pretty good but no caviar.Bout the same size as the one in your picture.Way up Rantowles near Bradley pasture.
I saw 1 jump about 10 feet out of the water in Winyah Bay several years ago
Lots of them in the S Edisto all the way up past Jacksonboro. Funny this has been brought up, I ordered farm raised in a restraunt Mothers Day. Open fire grilled, was wonderful!
