is their any thing else i can use. or an easier way to use planers tied off to the clete. any suggestions.
planer rod is the only way to go. A definite meat stick when used properly.

Do a google search for poor mans downrigger. basically a planer tied to the boat as you said. it is not that hard once you figure it out.

Haha. Yeah I have one 50w that doesn’t have a bent butt though
I ran a planer rod for the first time on Saturday and it was hit 3x more than any other rod in the spread. Don’t have access to a 50w so i messed around and decided to rig a 30 I had that had 40# mono on it. Rigged it with a bridle using 100#mono with a #2 planer. Probably doesn’t run as deep but sure got the job done.
