Success tonight

Found this nice little 8 right at dark tonight sneaking out to nibble on some cow peas. I was almost at the give up point when I noticed him walking out in the shooting lane. I’ve seen this guy on camera numerous times, and while he’s not the big boy, he’ll eat just fine. Weighed in at 148 lbs. Sure I probably should’ve let him walk and he’d of been great next season, but this is better than any deer I saw last year. I believe he’s 2.5 years old. Is there a reason to think otherwise?

I feel good I have this first deer under my belt and now I can concentrate on the big boy.

Nice one Ricky!

Sometimes I think we get to caught up in size etc.
To me, the simple question is “Did it bring you joy?”
If so, the hell with with what anyone else thinks. The first one always feels good.
I would be thrilled with that deer and then (just as you are going to do) hold out for the big boy next.
Congrats

Would have been a good one in two years.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Its been hard to pull the trigger when I know this guy is roaming nearby…

All the work paying off, very nice, Ricky!!

3.5 yrs if I had to venture a guess??? Think the tooth wear is supposed to be the best way to tell age. Maybe someone here can elaborate further on that??

Again, congrats!!

looks like a real healthy 2.5 year old buck in the 2nd pic. either way, nice buck and congrats! i’ve been hunting my own land 9 years now and that would be trophy for me here.

Very nice, like those brow tines

Get out There!

Do you have a stand or ground blind? Either way, you couldn’t have asked for a better placed shot! How far out was he and what did you shoot him with? I see an entry but no exit! Did he run or drop?

Nicceeee! congrats Ricky.:smiley::smiley:

If you are anything like me, that big sucker is haunting your dreams–every night!!! Errrrrr…I’m closing the gap though. That’s a nice buck. 8 points don’t get a pass much anyway. Usually, I have to kill those slick rascals with barely enough light to kill him in the first place let alone tell if he is the big 8 point or the smaller 8 point.

CONGRATS!!!

My little European mount is almost done. I don’t know why but I love the way these mounts look.

23 did you stain those horns? If so what did you use?

I have a skull that got a little too bleached waiting for the bugs to work in the cold. Need to touch mine up unfortunately.

I had the processor do it; did a bang up job too. Looks fantastic. He used some sort of lacquer; I’ll have to ask him what he used.
