suggestion for march meet and fish

i know its way early but since ill disappear underwater from time to time at untold dates may as well put it out now. come march if im able to get time to come up to charleston how many would be interested in yakkin up the tailrace for some shad? anchoring out of the heavy current and with a good anchor i never had any trouble staying put/capsizing and caught just as many fish as everybody else once i figured it out and perhaps turned a couple heads towing back a 10lb catfish on my stringer lol. any takers?

Oh yeah…I’d be up for it. I was able to get out there one time this year during the shad run, and had a blast.

pretty sure i was called every name in the book when i yakked up the tailrace whether it be out of respect or stupidity, however i almost always take the honey badger approach to comments from the peanut gallery. wasnt doing it for attention or anything…a kayaks all i have boat wise and i wanted to try the shad run so kayak it was! once i figured it out i had several days where i quit counting my 50+ shad, pulled up 4 herring at a time repeatedly, had a couple epic pelican battles, and towed back a couple eater sized blue cats. besides…40 minute paddle each way was a good workout and my “nuke” powered vessel got the best fuel economy out anyone else there  as long as one has a good anchor and doesnt anchor in the heavy current it really wasnt bad at all. anyone else think theyd be willing to try it?

I’m in.

I’m in…Standard Medium Weight Spining Rod OK…What type of Lures?

I think I used my med/light that day…small crappie jigs in white or chartreuse. Also sabiki rigs for the herring…

i rigged up 2 tiny chartruese curly tails with white, red, or chartruese jigheads with a large split shot between the 2 to weigh em down and let it drift from side too side. once it started to slow down at the end of the drift is when it usually got hit but i caught plenty of shad on the sabiki as well. toss out a chunk of herring on a heavier rod and it may double over with a catfish on it. never got a big catfish but def some good eater sized ones!

that sounds like it’s a blast!!! Definitely hit me up if and when you head that way, I could probably make a trip up from Beaufort!!

ha nice looks like i maybe broke the tailrace kayak seal by going repeatedly last year with no trouble…nobodys called me stupid again yet! the strategy the 1st trip was if i ever find something im not comfortable with ill simply turn around and fish somewhere else but got all the way to the dam no trouble. before then i had plenty of canoe experience but little yak experience and the yak i took up there was a $319 10’ sun dolphin…DEF nothing fancy but perfectly functional lol. again it was a 40-45 minute paddle to get there so hope yall are in shape!
