I’m looking for some suggestions for a new scope for my .22 rifle. I would like to keep it under $50, but am open to anything.
I had a Weaver V-22 scope on the rifle, and it’s falling apart, and no longer made. It’s a 4 to 9 power scope, and I would like to again have a variable magnification. I believe the V-22 also had a 7/8" diameter tube, when most rimfire scopes at the time that I bought it were made with a 3/4" tube, so again I would like a larger tube scope than the 3/4".
I’ve had the rifle, a Marlin single shot bolt action & scope since the mid 70’s, and it’s used primarily for Squirrel hunting.
Very much appreciate comments & thoughts. Thanks!
Thanks! I don’t buy much from Cabela’s, but will take a serious look at them.
I am definitely not a fan of cheap optics but this would be hard to pass up given your budget.

You can find these at local retailers too.

Thanks bangstick! I did look at that site & that scope before making my post, but had no idea if it would be a good choice. I know Simmons used to be a good brand, but it’s been a long time since I’ve bought any type of optics and things do change.
There’s not going to be much difference in the quality of the glass and/or features on rimfire scopes under $100. Most rimfire shooting happens (small game hunting) during periods of bright sunlight so “low light performance” isn’t really essential on a rimfire scope. I don’t personally have any firsthand experience with it but I know a few friends that have that scope on their 22’s and they’ve had no complaints.

Thanks again! Yes, I figured in my price range whatever I choose won’t be the latest & greatest. That old Weaver scope I had was a good one for me, and it lasted all these years. It served the purpose, and that’s all I’m really expecting.
Also, I would have a hard time justifying paying more for a new scope that would likely be more than the guns worth.
Thanks again!
Anytime

Hey bangstick! I want to again thank you for your comments & suggestion! I bought one of the Simmons .22 Mag scopes & am very pleased with it.
I found one being auctioned on Ebay, placed a bid & got it for $38.50 shipped. I think I paid about $35 many years ago for the Weaver scope it’s replacing, so IMO, it’s a super deal!
I was gone on a road trip when it arrived, so today was the first chance I got to put it on my rifle & sight it in, and this evening reduced the Squirrel population in my back yard by 2.
I’m now really looking forward to adding a few more to that total.
If I can help you out anyway, please ask! I would be delighted to return the kindness!
Glad it met your needs and glad I could help, bigjim.
