I’m taking the wife to Santee State Park for a week in mid March. We’ve gone there once in the summer and once in the fall. I usually fish Moultrie in fresh & Cooper for salt.
I’ll be bass fishing mostly but would like to be able to have my wife catch something. She’s not patient enough for bass fishing, kinda like taking a kid fishing. Any help putting her on some crappie or bream would be appreciated.
All depends on the water temp. Crappie and shellcracker could be spawning. Great area for big shellcracker.

The crappie bite should be on! We used to whack them over near Persanti Island.

March is a real good time to catch big blue catfish and around the state park is one of those places. You will be able to buy bait at the Santee General store,Shad is real good.

I have only spent a couple weeks there but at least have learned a little bit about the water ( and stumps). Full moon in March is the 16th. Would the crappie be shallow assuming the weather is stable.
Be weary of the stumps near that park, they are everywhere!

CATFISHING should be good, possibly stripers.
Cut bait in the river and in stump hole swamp and Pack’s Flats areas.
Fishing used to be awesome several years ago. Cats have slowed down some, but stripers have improved…
Hope this helps.
How abt. the 2nd week of April? I’m taking my 7 yr. old son up to stay at the State Park for the week of sprig break to do some fishing for pan fish, and I gotta tell ya I never really have done much pan fishing. All inshore and largemouth bass for me. Any help would be appreciated by my son I’m sure.

Pan fishing around the State Park can be real good along with crappie, like the man said watch out for the stumps they are every where. Just work around the cypress trees, you will need a small boat and watch out for getting lost.
