suggestions for transporting 2 yaks

hi all,
I’m in the market for 2 yaks, which i may have found. Has anybody used the thule stacker system or can you suggest the best way to carry 2 on top of a jeep grand cherokee? The jeep has the rack on top already.

thanks, lee

I have the removable Thule rack it is very nice for transporting two yaks.

I have the j style racks, I have had them for a few years so they look a little different but its the same idea. The one I have just snaps in and is easy to take on and off. I have an F-150 with a cap so your setu might be different. Its a good rack I can fit two yaks and a canoe on the roof of my truck. The thule straps are good as well. I guess this is the newer edition of what I have:

Hope this helps:smiley:

I use the Stackers myself. It might not be the Ideal way to carry two boats long distances, but as long as you tie down the bow and stern of the boats, I have never had a problem. If you do use a stacker, make sure you put some pads on the crossbar where the boats will sit.

By the way, what type of boats are you looking at? Depending on the boat type, one system might work better for you than another.

Come by Time Out in Mt. P, and I can show you some options and my stacker set up.

I’m going to orlando 1stwk of july, and would rather drive an altima(gas) than my truck. any suggestions on a cheap rack system that I probably wouldn’t use again, that would work for a ride135?

Thanks for the replys guys. Hi Dave, you and I met Saturday and talked for a while. My name is Lee and I told you I was looking at MudRoc’s Tarpon 140 (he’s actually bringing it by tomorrow evening). I found another Pelican on this site that I’m going to look at for my son as a starter so he can go fishing and paddling with me. I forget the model, but it’s an 11.5 foot sit inside. I will come back out to see you after I have the kayaks. Thanks for all your help Saturday, the kids really enjoyed the climbing wall too! I was looking at the stacker online, but would really like to see it mounted too, so I’ll call to see what days you’ll be there.

Thanks again, Lee

Hey DayTripper

I’ve strapped my two 12 foot Pungos many times to the rack of my 89 Jeep Cherokee for short trips (50 miles round trip) with no problems.
