Took my son out today for some fun, been a while since the last trip out we’ve done, since we moved from one county to the next.
My son caught a nice mess of various panfish on the bottom with cut fish and shrimp. 5 year old heaven.
I managed to catch a 33" redfish, the biggest one I’ve caught in years. But he hit a scrap of cut pinfish, on a #4 hook. And of course, it’s the one day I accidentally left my landing net at home. This was one of the most challenging catches I’ve ever had. I knew if I put too much pressure on him, the hook would bend.
Thanks to the boat that loaned me their net, I would have never landed the thing without your help. Got the fish revived in the water, and he swam away confidently.
The only pic I managed to get wasn’t worth uploading, it was just his gill plate lol.
We threw artificials for about an hour afterward, but the wind was such a mess that we just called it a day and came on home.
Grab the leader and grab the fish by the tail and lift. That might save the hook.
Yeah that would have been my only option if I hadn’t had a generous net donor. My boat is so fugly that I kinda look like a charity case anyhow, so I had that going for me lol.
More than likely, I would have simply taken the pliers and shook the red loose and not tried to lift him, if I couldn’t net him safely. That was my plan anyhow if this had turned out to have been a shark or a big ray.
