Sullivans Island Saltwater Classic

Anybody planning on fishing this tomorrow?
These guys do put on a pretty good tournament.

Team Gas Money is on board. Looking forward to it.

Any update on results?

Shark fest for us. Caught a half dozen and not a single king.
Seemed a lot of folks were having the same experience.
Don’t know what the results were.

Yesterday, was tough fishing, we hit a bunch of spots, nothing but sharks. Radio chatter was about the same. I don’t believe a lot of fish were weighed in. There was a nice tide line, but the wind made it hard to slow troll along.

We had to choose from fishing teh Denny Ford tourney or teh big King tourney and since we don’t target kings all that much we decided to fish the Denny Ford. Well we got bait (big mullet, menhaden, and ribbons) and proceded to get the heck beat out of us going south in a 21’CC! We were determined to catch a king though. After 4 hours of trolling and nothing to show for it except a remora, we headed back in VERY near the beach. There we ended up with 3 kings. A 15.33, a 20.00, and a 29.55. As always we should have entered the big tourney, but that is how it goes. At least we got 2nd and 3rd in the little tourny. Also, the winning king was 32.00 in the littel touny so at least we weren’t the only ones. I haven’t checked the results of the Classic yet , but I think the 32 and our 29.55 would have been 1st and 3rd!! Oh well! It was fun, except for the ride out!

What area did you find your ribbons if you don’t mind telling?

Mac,

We found our ribbons in west ashley. West Marine to be exact.:smiley:

We fished the Denny Ford for kings last weekend. I am glad to know I was not alone in never finding the fish. We fished out of the north edisto, got bait easily and started outside the inlet. After about an hour of nothing, we put the tabs down and plowed out to the Edisto 60 to find it like a desert. No birds, no bait, just nothing. After a little while there, we pushed out to a nice ledge in 70’. All we found there was sharks. Sharks on top, sharks on the down rigger.

I am still trying to figure this tournament thing out. It just seems like when in a tournament I find difficulty, and when fishing for fun there are big fish everywhere.

Not all bad though. Drank plenty of beer at the party and got a t-shirt out of it!
