sun block stains

I’ve been having a recurring problem with orange stains on my gel coat from the sun block solution we use. Does anyone know how to either keep the stains from occurring or how to get rid of them???
thanks.

I try to make people apply their sunscreen on the dock before leaving. My vinyl cushions take a beating this time of year but the stains wear off fairly quickly. I don’t get them on the gel coat much

That’s right, the seat cushions are stained too. It seems to rub off of the skin even if it’s applied before you get on the boat.

Have you tried the Magic Eraser sponges that are out there? Those thing do wonders on scuff marks and other stains on my boat. I cringe when I see someone pull out a can of spray sunscreen due to whats going to happen but I won’t tell them not to apply it.

On another note I heard a story about a charter operation being sued because someone got a severe sunburn while on a trip and supposedly it was the charter boats responsibility to make sure they had on sunscreen.

Coppertone sport spray sunscreen is the worst. the only thing i have found for an immediate removal is ON-OFF hull cleaner or any of the oxcylic acid varieties. I keep a large bottle of NO-AD SPF70 and ask them to please use it instead. Never have a problem when i explain what it does to the boat. It seems any of the sprays do it.

“Barkeepers friend” comes in gel or shake can…gets out most stains on your hulls and cushions…found on the cleaning aisle of most grocery stores…cost about 2.50…we use the gel where we have some “bleeding” from our ladder fittings on the back of the boat…takes it right off…then I hit it with a swipe of wax just to be safe…have used it on our cushions too for squid ink.( used for bars, stainless, stovetops, counters, etc)
