Sundance or Carolina Skiff

I am looking to get a new boat for inshore fishing. Anyone have any thoughts on Sundance or Carolina Skiff. Thinking about getting somewhere between 17-19ft.

I saw a sundance the other day. Just a little flat boat and it looked very good. I would say if your just fishing with you and other guy or not doing alot of cruzing then do the sundance if they have good reviews. If you want a boat that will go shallow and can ride with then CS. Look at the draft too. I would go with the shallow boat.

I had a Sundance B22 and loved it. No comparison for me against the C Skiff. Sundance is a family owned business out of Blackshear, GA while CS is owned by a corporate holding company(or at least was when I was shopping 3 years ago)I’d much rather support a family business than a corporation and the folks at Sundance set the boat up to my specifications and even gave me a tour of the plant. Good folks and a pleasure to deal with. Take a close look at both and you’ll see the difference.

Bulls Bay builds a nice boat. They build a 15 and a 19 (almost 20). They are built by Carolina Composites, same company that builds Pioneer, but priced well below the Pioneer.

havent been real impressed with the newer 17’ carolina skiffs
they are narrower, rounded bottom, and shallower than they use to be, and all the flotation is in the floor. a wave or 2 over teh bow, a few inches of water in the floor, and you step to the side, and with teh added top heavy weight of the new 4strokes, the boats roll over. we have salvaged several of them this past year.
the older boats didnt have this issue.
cant comment on the specific sundance model

I use to have a old CS and loved it. They have changed the new ones. I have looked around lately and like the finish and features better on the SD. Size wise more for same or slightly less $.

Looked at some skiffs today and spent some time looking and asking about other boats that I might be interested in. Anyone have an thoughts or knowldge on Sea Hunt Ultra 186 or Key West 176 Bay Reef? I am mainly looking for a an inshore fishing boat that I will mainly use for fishing and taking my family out cruising on occasions. When I mentioned that I would take the family out once in a while the salesmen suggested I consider something other than a skiff. I do like the idea of SH or KW as a versatile boat. Thanks for the info so far.

Adam… thanks for the offer. I am really considering the KW 176BR. Did a search on this site and heard some good things about it from previous posts from long ago. Been doing some reach for couple of months and I think this boat will fit my needs well.
