Sundance Skiff

I am looking at the 16ft Sundance skiff. Anyone have any pros/cons with Sundance?

Thanks

Google Sundance skiffs, complaints, etc… There are several links with good and bad about them.

I had an older Sundance F16 skiff. Beat the crap out of it and it did just fine. It’s still running on Lake Marion.

I had a 2002 16’ with a 40 Yamaha. Loved the boat. It actually handled a chop pretty well, shallow draft for gigging, good platform for cast netting. A buddy of mine bought it from me 6 years ago and it is still going strong. They do slide some on turns with a cross wind.

I had the 17ft with a yamaha 90 I purchased new in 2007.

The nose barely touched a dock and caused major damage. The repair shop said the glass was incorrectly mixed, so they had to repair a large area.

The hull warped after a year, it was easy to see. The retailer disappeared when I needed help.
They told me the boat had no wood, but the deck and console have wood in them.

I traded it out for a Key West. Best Decision EVER!

They are cheap, and you get what you pay for. Unless things have changed, I wouldnt go anywhere near one of those.

I have never been in one on the water, but I did some work on Flicker Fisher’s Sundance and was fairly impressed with how well it was built. I cut 2 large holes on the casting deck and it was an excellent laminate with a honeycomb foam core. Here it is…

Nothing wrong with the glass in that boat. Nothing wrong with wood cores either if they are done right.

I’ve had my Sundance Flicker for two years and love it. It does great for what it’s designed to do. It’s quality built and I haven’t had any big problems. It’s easy to handle on the water and trailer. It fishes well with up to 3. I had 4 in the boat once and it was fine but I don’t think I’d do that often.

I am pretty sure the OP is talking about a standard Sundance K16 skiff. Not the composite Spyder boats. I would expect a HUGE difference in materials and build quality between a $10k skiff hull and a $25k 2 piece composite flats hull.

Thanks Everyone.

I saw this Craigslist ad, which peeked my curiosity. Never really seen a dealer liquidate boats. Or maybe I haven’t looked hard enough.

Not sure they are liquidating anything. I think that is what they usually sell for. Don’t forget to add about $1500 for rigging an controls if you get a package. Those are all separate prices.
