Monday is going to blow NE at 15, unfortunately. That is when I was going. I’m laying in bed texting everyone I know to go right now.

It seems quite funny that “going to Y-73” is the new standard for everyone on here going bottom fishing- it makes no sense to me- i have seen every single part of y-73 from the bottom …and fishing there is much more complicated and less productive than a ton of spots 10 miles closer to the rocks- do what you want Y-73 newbies…just sayin

SOB…#$%^ *&%$%## #$@$ !!! The 7am and 10 am Sailflow look horrible! That is the only bad forecast I can find. We will get up and look at it, and make a decision in the morning. If the wind field hsa not passed Frying pan tower than we will go. We are only running about 30 out. Here is the 7am map for tomorrow.

I know. I was all set for tomorrow but still think the NE that is written in real small print will come through at 15kts for just long enough in the AM to F— it up.

When I saw that I figured it was today or nothing. With my heading I would be in the ditch going and the return flow in the afternoon would be over my shoulder. Not to bad.

The fact that I am typing this right now means I didn’t go. I’m going to throw the flats boat in and pole my son around for a bit this afternoon instead.

On a positive, note the bluefin did show in NC this week. That is where my head is now…

I should have knocked on wood, sorry fellas.

I was off all week hoping to fish. The weather will be good next week when I start my new job.

Made it out to y73 and tried a couple other spots on the way in. Nothing but fat Black Sea bass and a couple other bottom critters. I found that using absurdly huge baits helped me find the big ones that would be the only fish to take it whole rather than the little ones that picked at it and missed the hook. We did see a school of dolphin that circled our boat and were jumping out of the water. We also saw a mola mola which was pretty neat to see. About 26 mph out and a little less than that on the way back with engines trimmed down for the brisk 2 ft chop. Would have been a very wet ride in save for the enclosure.

To the comment above about y73, last couple times I went, it was very productive and limited on multiple species, this time, not so much. If you want to share you secret super productive spots that are much further in, I have a private message inbox and I’m all ears!

We went out yesterday as well. Got to a spot in 70’ and about 30 minutes later had a three-person limit of some of the fattest black sea bass I’ve seen in a long time. Conditions weren’t bad, but it did pick up around noon.

millacd- artificial structure is very hard to bottom fish unless you know how it looks on the bottom- anchoring within a foot or two of where you need to be is the difference btn catching fish, not catching fish, and getting all your rigs hung on the structure- the fish will also not move from one side of a large artificial structure to your baits like they will on a patch of reef/live bottom- yes there are exceptions to this statement but im speaking in a general sense- i have learned the hard way with everything in my life, but the biggest thing with fishing i have learned is to let the ocean tell me where to go- if it wants you to go a different direction than you planned, then go with it and fish a new area and learn more and find new spots- this requires much studying in advance but you will have much better luck overall bottom fishing reef areas (whether anchored or drifting) than you will fishing artificial structure that you haven’t seen from the bottom
