sunday 2/3

Braved the wind today. Airport registered 25mph+ at times with gusts to 37…lol… it def seemed like that. Slow day but did manage 6 fish but only 1 keeper. With fogmans reports of cold nasty water we decided to stay below the forks. Everything caught in 25-35’ of water all on DR. Nothing up top. Water temp 49-50. Tried a couple new shallow areas with no luck either.
Did notice that when fish were suspended they would not bite. Fish we caught were right off the bottom.
Perch were thick as could be on a sharp drop off 100yrds or so to the left of a certain metal sign people use as a landmark. Marked them in 29’ all the way down the ledge to 50’. Guess i need to start carrying perch gear.

Hope the stripes get out of this funk soon. …

I did not mean to scare you away from the river. It was certainly fishable yesterday. However, you would have played hell trying to pull boards 25-37 mph winds; so finding some deep fish and spotlocking was really a good call. Another option would be to anchor or beach the boat, chum, and fish corks. Heck, you might have had enough wind to run planers at anchor. I’ve done that before:) They don’t get out as far to the side, but I have caught fish that way… The best time to fish is when you can!

That’s where the perch were Saturday a week ago. We caught 2 nice stripers in with the perch in that area and my friend lost a really big striper right at the boat. Then, they were fairly shallow, but at the same basic place.
