Been working a few birds around a swamp on Wadmalaw for a couple of weeks now, but they’ve proved smarter than I until yesterday. I had no idea the bird was roosted there, he’s been hundreds of yards away for the past couple of weeks. Got in early and he never gobbled, not even in response to owl call or crow call. Well, got set up in an area I HOPED would be good. Once the sun started peeking up he came down all hot and bothered once he heard an owl call 50 yards away from him on the ground…hit the ground running right to me, knocked him flat at 40 paces.
10 15/16" beard and 22.6 pounds but his spurs were only about 15/16" long…there’s at least 2 more birds in this area that are bigger than this guy. I’ll get his daddy before the season is over…
