Sunday Afternoon

Put the boat to run it a bit after doing some motor maintenance and TM upgrade. Looked around Yacht Cove bait for some perch, but didn’t see much of anything, then stopped by the towers on the way to the Lex side.

They were loaded with bait, so I jigged some up and fished the only other 2 rods onboard as down rods. I knew it was a long shot this time of year, but I didn’t have a bait tank and only a couple of rods, so I figured it would be a good a place as any to checkout the TM as any.

The only fish I caught was a 20" short at 45’…actually the only hit I had. Got wet, but still felt good to get back out there again.

Motor ran well and TM worked great.

Herring were all probably 5" min. Hope that means a good year coming up for decent size Murray baits.

Figured I’d show you some love for your 20" tower Striper …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

What made it even worse was I fished in the rain and got soaking wet to catch 1 20" fish. LOL

so how do you jig up herring? sabiki? what size etc? that’s something I’ve never done

Yea, I used a sabiki, but you can also use small gold hooks tied on with loop knots. I have a few different size sabikis I use…I would have to look, but I believe the hook sizes are about #8 or #10?

The one thing nice about just using gold hooks is you can go with a longer shank and it makes it easier to unhook them than it is with those small short hooks on a sabiki.
