Left the dock with the Lawcrushers and Jayne O about 6:30 and straight to a hump off hollywood that was loaded with fish. Threw a marker and by the time we got set up we weren’t seeing a thing. Circled around with the trolling motor and then on to another hump with very similar results other than we didn’t mark quite as many fish when we first got there. Never droped a line in the water.
Looked around some more, so we were probably out there about an hour with barely any time spent fishing. Then we decided the next place we marked a good group of fish we would anchor up and get to fishing. One thing I have learned over the years fishing is the odds of catching any fish drop considerably when you ain’t got no rods in the water.
Marked some fish in 70’ out from Frey Key and we got a good anchor set on the first attempt dispite the high winds. We sat there about an hour and the fishing wasn’t fast and furious, but we had a good slow steady pick and wound up with 8 before racing back to beat the storm at about 9:00.
By the way, we lost that race.

Have to admit that my mind wandered a bit in church this morning when I saw the rain coming down and thought of you. We’re going to work the LHM side of the lake in the morning with new settings on our fish finder and some tiny hooks. In theory, the SW wind should be good to us. Now if I only knew what kind of music they liked.
Thanks again for taking us out … rain or shine … at least it cleared up enough for us to eat … 1/2 buttered and rubbed with an Applewood Rub … the other half battered with a corn-based surry and deep-fried … side dishes included homemade eggrolls, wild rice and steamed cauliflower …

it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!

Woke up early at 3 AM and turned on coffee, thinking we had missed the night storms. No more got back in bed when it sounded like a firehose spraying on the roof. When alarm went off at 4 it was still pouring and our IPAD weather app showed the entire southeastern seaboard being drenched. Decided to cancel the effort. Went to LHM early and bailed 50-60 gallons of water off of the boat cover. Made my selected changes to the Humminbird fish finder and went on a short shakedown cruise. Saw several fish between 30-40 feet in depths of 45 to 65 within the creek and on the Lee side of points. Unless I’m doing something wrong, it appears the Humminbird does not give quite the same “spaghetti” appearance for fish as other displays I have seen. We’ll give it a go Wednesday morning.
The “spaghetti” appearance is when the fish are actively feeding. They will just be arches if they are not as active. When you hit the spaghetti, it’s almost always non stop action till they are gone.
