Hit the water at 6:30 Sunday morning and headed to my usual spots. First spot produced this beauty. Caught on topwater using a Badonkadonk Bone with orange belly. Water temp was 62 and the tide was about 2 1/2 hours before low. Current was relatively slow and the weather was absolutely perfect! Fish was 24 1/2" and I’m guessing, weighed about 5-6 lbs. As soon as I measured it and got a pic, it was released nice and healthy. Caught a bunch more trout using a Z-Man New Penny Shad(Name may not be quite right). I was glad to see a trout that size around here.
Good to see some of the big gals after last winter. Good job letting it go as well. Hopefully she will pass on those genetics to the next generation. We caught some big ones on the Badonk-a-Donk last year.
That’s a fine trout right there:sunglasses: Very nice!
I’ve never caught anything on a Badonkadonk I met Capt. Chris Oneil down in Boca Grande a couple of years ago, he was helping develop them along with Bill Dance. They gave me a handful of them to try, and a lot of local fishing tips and locations. The fishing locations were great, but no luck badonkadonking. Must be me.
Wow, what a hog! Man that is one pretty fish. I have got to get schooled on trout. I seemed to have gotten the hang of reds but trout not so much. Ditto what everyone else said on releasing that one. Hopefully it will produce some babies.
Cracker - Both Optiker and I have had some luck with them. Timing is everything I guess. Early morning before the sun comes up has been a good time for me.
Thanks DF. I read a trout that size will drop about a million eggs. Hopefully the cold will hold off this winter and grow some more slobs like this one.
