So I flew my dad in from Montana on Friday to celebrate his 81st B-day. We did not get a chance to go out Sat but did get out yesterday after church. We caught close to 20 with around 5 shorts. I was fortunate to get the “good one” and let my dad land it with some good coaching . He most likely will never catch another fish like this in his life but I am thankful I was there to share the moment and more importantly the memory. I wouuld have let her go if it was mine but since dad caught it I wanted to bring her home for more pics! All fish were caught on herring & gizzards. We started in 4-10 feet and caught 4 but then moved to to deeper water 19-28 ft and caught the majority. Used PB, FL, and DR. Water was cold 48-49 degrees.
Nice fish Richy! Where is the “on the water” photo? We want to play the “Name that Honey Hole” game…lol I noticed the Gizzard shad were pretty lethargic in my tank at home Sat. morning early. They just sat in one spot. They circle more when its warmer. The bluebacks can tolerate the cold temps better and probably more active and probably draw more strikes. I haven’t tried keeping herring much in my tank at home but plan to do more for comparative observations…probably need to build me a 2nd tank anyway…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
I know right about where you were in the photo Richy… in the boat holding the camera:smiley: Seriously, I believe I pulled that area Saturday afternoon and left the mule for you guys Great fish buddy! Even greater memories made!
Ok Richy make big men cry and its not about the fish, reminds me of my dad teaching me how to crappie fish from the bank with cane poles and minnows. God is good.
Richy,
It’s a great thing you did for your Dad, bringing him here and spending quality time. You can see by the looks on his face how much he enjoyed it. Father-son time is special.
My son invites me several times a year to fish with him in the creeks around Charleston for Spot tail Bass and Trout - sometimes with a guide and other times in his boat. We always have fun no matter what we catch. Its the time together that matters.
I certainly am not going to reveal the spot but…I will comment that some on this thread are really close…what does that mean…somewhere from Yacht Cove to Bush River
