Headed out sunday morning with my buddy Jeff. Launched at high tide and started looking for bait. Finger mullet were scattered and hard to catch. Threw some live shrimp and mm’s along banks while we waited for the tide to drop. Slow morning without much activity. Tide went down and we managed to snag a couple dozen of finger mullet. Made our way out to the south jetties at the falling tide. The tide was ripping and it made it interesting in my 16 foot skiff. Anchored up and tossed a blue crab on the bottom. Within 10 minutes I hooked a 3 foot bonnethead. decided to keep it since I’ve never eaten one. Fished the jetties for a few hours and caught some big croaker and a few small reds. Missed the big storm that was hitting around the ravennel and the intracoastal. Waited for it to pass and headed back to the intracoastal at low tide. Fished some docks with not much biting. Tide started coming in so we moved to the banks. Hooked up with a 13 inch flounder then a 16inch trout and 19 inch red. Jeff landed a 21 inch red. All caught on popping corks and finger mullet. Bite turned off within an hour. We both headed home with dinner and only suffered a bit of light rain. Soaked the bonnethead fillets in buttermilk then fried half of it and marinaded and grilled the other with itialian dressing. It was very good, better than I thought it would be.
