First?..I HATE HOLIDAY WEEKENDS! But, since I have the good fortune of being able to be a member of the WAOMC, I don’t have to fight the public landings on a holiday weekend! Since my niece and her BF were in town my wife and I decided to take them on their first salt-water fishing trip. It was more windy than I expected…ESE ~10mph, plus the multitude of extra boaters, made for a nice bumpy ride out towards Kiawah. We spent the morning/early afternoon picnicking on Kiawah, then fished the incoming tide in the afternoon. Water temp was 75-78 and a little murky. We had a couple of bait stealers, probably blue fish. As the afternoon wore on, I was afraid my niece wasn’t going to catch anything. Then finally, the rod with cut mullet on it bent over, handed the rod to my niece and let her fight her first salt water fish, a nice red! She did a good job listening to instructions and bringing in the red without any trouble. A nice 19" red kept for dinner. The rest of the day, nothing. So, we headed back and I decided to give then a water tour of the harbor, including all of the big fancy/shmancy yachts at Chs marina!
Good day on the water, despite all the extra boat traffic!

Hey Tonic…Nice job doing the “tour guide” gig. That grin on your niece’s face tells it all. She wouldn’t smile like that smellin’ horse piss on a downtown carriage ride on Cumberland Street!
