Had my father in town for a few days and decided to try to dial in the trout and reds. Sunday we woke up early and had the shrimp poles out with bait near the Yorktown and wasted a bunch of time only catching about 50 shrimp for bait. We tried some new to me points off of the icw near iop. We had a rough day only catching about 10 trout with 3 over 15 inches.

Monday morning we stopped at Hadrells and grabbed a 10 ft deep hole net which was a great investment. Both Monday and Tuesday we loaded up with over 200 shrimp in the harbor in less then a hour. Both days we ran out of shrimp catching close to 30 trout each day with a handful being keepers. Tuesday we also caught an 18 inch flounder and about 20 slot reds and 2 over slot. All fish on these days were caught on the harbor and the Wando. Caught the Reds early on the incoming and the trout were in the same places once the tide came in. Ralph’s shad tt with a trout eye caught a bunch of fish when we ran out of shrimp. Kept a few fish Tuesday for a fish fry. Had a great time with my old man and look forward to doing it again soon.

Posts like yours make me realize: I don’t know what the heck I’m doing.
Discouraging for me, but it’s at least fun to know the fish do exist out there.

Thank you sir. One tip that worked well for us is run up and down the rivers and harbor at dead low and hit mark on your gps at every oyster hump you see, pay particular attention to any dock that has a oyster mound near or under it. Come back to that area when the water is up and float a live shrimp under it. Once you find them good switch to artificials.

Nice report and I agree that the fish are biting. Headed to Haddrell’s in a few to try shrimp tomorrow.
