Well, I’m finally able to post with a report.

I launched at the dam around 7:30 & had my first fish by 8:00. It was a little guy about 12" long. I was fishing down lines about 100 yards from the yacht club landing to about a quarter mile away. I had several hits with misses(one was Fishzilla) but managed to bring 4 nice ones to the boat, the biggest being around 26". The boat was loaded back on the trailer at 10:30. I saw a few schooling at the top but they were always out of casting range.
By the way, here’s the catch of the day.

I hope he didn’t end up as fish food.

Nice!..How deep on the downlines? We got a few fish yesterday am on genehunters boat pulling freelines and casting topwater, but one of the guides fishing the same area was back at the dock with a 4 man limit before 9 am fishing downlines.
We didn’t get any turtles, but we did see something I have never seen. Saw a swirl just behind the boat as we were moving by…thought it was a gar at first, but then it just stayed here twisting all over the top of the water. Turned out to be a big snake with a nice size bream in his mouth…probably lasted 30 seconds or so on top squirming around…trying to get the bream down his throat i guess.

Downlines were about 45ft. in water 50 to 80ft. deep. I probably could have done better, but I’m still learning to use the depth finder & GPS. The depth finder is’nt too bad, but the GPS has got me confused.
I almost felt bad putting the little soft shell back in the water.
