Fished all of the incoming tide without a bite. Tried several places and was using live and artificial baits. Decided to head for hill at around 2:30. Stopped a place that produced two weeks ago as being skunked ain’t no fun. Between the stiff southerly wind and a hard clay bottom, anchoring was a b*tch! Finally managed to get tight and caught three nice ones within ten minutes. A 19", a 18", and a fat 17" went home for supper. The window shut down and we said, “let’s try that spot right over there”. Anchoring was a little easier due to pluff mud and my second cast resulted in 25" pig that went 7 lbs, 8 ozs on the Boga. Wind was howling so we ducked into the cut and wife caught a 14" flounder which we released. Score for the day was wife three, me two. She was using either mud minnows or finger mullet, but both of mine came on Gulp 3" New Penny Shrimp under a popping cork. I also used the Gulp spray-on scent but not totally convinced of its effectiveness. Water temp was right at 75 degrees, wind was blowing (howling at times), all fish caught on the out-going tide. The ditch plowers today were an unusually rude bunch and only one slowed down. These big boats are a bane to the ICW.
Break-in on the new motor is now complete and the Carolina Skiff is all we wanted and more.
