Sunday Report - Jetties/capers - kinda boring

I want to try and catch a SC Tarpon this summer so first thing was bait. Ive been practicing with the cast net and used it for the first time Sunday am near Ben Sayer bridge. Finally got a net full, I think they were pompano. Also got some shrimp, a crab and a 2’ shark.
Headed out to jetties, was planning on looking around Dynamite hole area. Was inside the jetties and was going to go through, but as I edged forward the size of the waves coming through was a bit much. The weird thing is as I tried to back away in reverse the boat wouldn’t move. Pushed up RPM’s and still didnt help. I had enough room to go forward and get away, but still cant figure out why boat wouldn’t back up. Best guess is obviously strong current and backing into a swell.
Fished up the inside of the jetties with live bait, and scouting, but nothing.
Decided to troll out to Capers Reef looking for Spanish. Gave it about 45 mins and nothing, and the swell/waves were getting pretty decent, so decided to just get out to capers as I didnt want to be out there in the afternoon. Once i got out to capers realized how rough it was, didnt see another boat outside the jetties, so only stayed for a while, trolled back and found a bunch of Spanish, they all took small clarks spoon behind a 2oz lead.
Got home in time for the end of the golf, and released this stoaway i found.

cheers

we were inside the South jetties Saturday and there was a formidable tide-rip-line just before you got to dynamite hole on the right…we came out around Cummings Point and saw it only after going to the South of it…reversed course and went West to get on the deep side of it…lots of white water and looked nasty…
kudos for continuing to get out there and dialing it in David…

Thanks Stump. I didnt get any pics, but they were flat, thin roundish fish, with one spot. Im looking on line to see if i can find a pic.

Thanks Bonzo, i took some video when i was out there to show my wife that my desire for a bigger boat is safety related

Tried the Spanish offshore today, same thing. Big swells. We turned around.

Stuffed the bow on one of those solid rollers at dynamite hole. Pucker factor goes up with the wall of water that doesnt move, just stands there in a set waiting for you, taunting you, until…
Your soaking wet.

I had to pay attention coming back, I couldn’t even open a beer

Swells were coming in from the port side, still learning my boat, but trimming up on port side kept me dry (ish)
