Sunday Report

Thought I’d report over here since it’s been quiet for a few days… Put in at 7:30 and rode all the way to a couple of miles above Kempson’s. Thought it was going to be on when I got a 24 incher shortly after putting boards out. However, after 2 hours, all I had was 2 more short fish. The wind was making it tough to pull boards; so I moved back down to the Elbow with the intention of spot locking with down rods-- nothing but shorts. Then I got the idea to drift with the wind with weighted freelines and downrods around the big water. Bingo! 6 more keepers with a nice 28 incher in the mix. A triple-header ended the day! … It was very enjoyable.

Sounds like a great day of fishing. Glad you did so well. I was sidelined for most of the day. Got out around 5:00 and only managed one 24"er. Could have done much better except for the uneducated school chasers. See my rant under “Stripers”. Some days they can be pretty aggravating. One boat actually ran in under power between me and the school I was throwing into.

That is extremely annoying I know. Something similar happened to me up in Spring Creek around this time last year. I was working the edges of a surface school with planers. Got a couple decent ones and here comes the idiots, motoring through the middle of the school. Well, they cast their arms off, and I continued to pick up fish after fish 50 yards from them. I took pleasure in their exasperation:stuck_out_tongue: In spite of their ignorance, I yanked 11 keepers out of that school… Tough to do without live bait.

Fogman-Thanks for the report. I’m going to keep a close eye on these Striper board reports to see if I can start in the right spot for my monthly trip this weekend. With any luck they will be between the 'Bow and Blacks when I get to go Saturday.

From what I’m seeing Fog is on the money with his reports. I’ll be sidelined all this long weekend so keep the reports coming. Hope to be able to fish again by Tuesday if I’m lucky. There does seem to be a lot of late evening action in the elbow area. If all else fails be near the elbow by 4:30 and listen for the schools. Sounds and looks like someone dropping cinder blocks into the water if they’re keepers in the school.

Oh they’re from the “Bow” all the way up to the ends of the rivers now until late spring. Fall/winter fishing is here! We just have to shop around to find the best bite and techniques. However, the biomass is in the upper 3rd of the lake. Occasionally, you’ll find a hot bite in the lower to middle areas, but up is usually best.

Looking forward to it. I’ll take your advice and be at the 4:30 spot unless I happen to be tearing them up elsewhere. I’ll try and have my portable VHF with me and monitoring the club channel unless I forget it…
