Sunday Report

My boat is slated to return tomorrow. We’ll see what happens. … However, yesterday Spoon and I fished aboard his cousin Rusty’s 18 foot Bentley. Rusty is new to striper fishing; so we had to install some more rod holders and an aerator for the live well before even pulling up to David’s bait boat. I had brought along an anchor basket, some of my best combos, and my drift sock, and by 7 we were ready to go.

The bite was slow due to the moon and my adjustment to Rusty’s setup coupled with the fact that I had not seen the lake in more than 2 weeks, but we managed 9 decent fish by noon. We caught em on 60 foot down rods and spoons, drifting in 60-120 feet of water.

It’s great teaching and forging new friendships through striper fishing!

Nice job James, good to see such fat fish in August.

Thanks Steely! They do seem to be in good shape for August.

On another note, the Hardcore Xpress is now safely back in my backyard after 2 months! Batteries are charging, and I’ll be spending a good portion of the day tomorrow moving gear back in. I’m planning to be back in action with it Thursday.

Fog, I enjoyed being out there with y’all. Next time I’ll take the deep cycle battery over to Rusty’s and load it up over there. That thing got heavy coming back up the hill!
I’m probably going to find and get a few more of those big spoons this weekend. Wish I could remember the name of them.
I’m sure Rusty saw a lot of what he wants to learn. It will only be a matter of time and a few more equipment upgrades before he becomes a striper terrorizer.

Congrats! Those fish sure look healthy. Wishing you good weather and good fishing now that you have your boat back.

Thanks Mdl! Here’s hoping everything is working properly when we get her on the water tomorrow.
