I am probably going to go to the Ashley River Memorial Bridge on Sunday to catch some sheepshead. This is a great spot and is only a few mile paddle from the landing at Folly Road and the Ashley/Stono cut. High tide is at 10am (which is good) but the current will be against me on the way back in unless I stay past 4pm.
I’m planning on launching around 7:30am and if the bite isn’t on by 11:30am I will probably paddle over to the Stono and hit some spots that I know hold good reds.

Would anyone like to join me?

Looks like fun. Wish I could go but have to work. Post some pictures of your catch.
Jordan, you might want to launch from Brittlebank or City Marina, much easier paddle when that tide starts to rip! Let me know how you do, I have tried that bridge before, but to much current and no fish for me. Make sure you bring something to scrape up some barnacle chum!
Did you ever try that other spot I was telling you about up the Wando?
If I wasn’t working, I would go with you.

I never did get around to trying that spot on the Wando. I would go if someone joined me but I don’t like to do solo trips on big water in areas that I don’t know. I know the area around the Ashley Bridge pretty well so I don’t mind to solo it when I have to. I haven’t caught any fish here either, but I have heard it can be productive for sheepshead. I’m up for hitting the Wando spot if anyone wanted to join.

That full moon falling tide through Wappoo Cut especially if you’e fighting it to the Stono is too much. Be careful!!</font id=“blue”>
Do the coasties and dnr not give you grief for fishing under the bridge?
I don’t fear the Ocean, but it sure as hell has earned my respect!

I have been through the cut before when it was ripping pretty good so I know what I am in for.
As for getting close to the bridge, I see people under there in boats all the time so I don’t see why a kayak would suddenly be more offensive to the man.

The boat traffic was insane on Sunday. I would have been rolling in 2-3 foot wake every 15 seconds so I decided to play it safe and fish the docks on the Stono. I managed a 30" red and a ~3ft bonnethead shark. I also caught some small trout.

jordan, i agree with DD, it would probably be much easier, and safer to put the kayak in at Brittle Bank, and fish some ashley spots, and there…
