still not finished but at least ready for a couple of hours with some cold beers and friends for a test ride offshore.
yesterday i went with Christian and Freddy off from the Club Nauticus in Cabeza de Toro to see how the 29ft’er is working now.
less than 1 nml off the passage we found a big current line which we followed along the coast, never more than 4nmls offshore, full of baitfish and floating woods, feeding birds everywhere around.
it took no more than 40 minutes before we got lucky aside of a big piece of bambus, we received several dorado hits, but very small ones, so we took just 2 to keep them as live baits for the tuessday blue marlin run on the 42ft’er. 2 woods later we found the right BBQ size, again at a floating wood, still slow trolling in the same current line, we took 8 dorados 12-15lbs.
finishing here we spotted a big group of feding birds around 1 1/2 nmls offshore of our position, so we decided to do a trolling towards them, but they moved very fast, we didn’t want to take the baits out of the water to speed up, so we headed inwards enjoying some cold ones by the way.
1 1/2 nml in front of the passage we got an other 4 dorados, one 20lbs, the rest around 10-12lbs and in the shallow of the passage 3 Cudas.
at all some great sunday hours on the water without the need to do a job for customers, just relaxed and the new boat “Raider” showed up to be a lucky one for the fishing action.
basically i will use it for light tackle fishing on spinning and fly gear in the shallows and aound the reef, but you can not withstand to pull some ballyhoos when you see a nice current line or a group of feeding birds nearby.
minnow64,
i’ve sent the info on your e-mail.
Preston:
i have a nice big life-bait tank, but it works only for the small ones, big dorados in a cage die fast.
they’ve been back in the water monday morning, but no luck with them, we got the Blues in the spray after we switched back to the regular spray with lures.
how big what, the tank or the dorados?
tank is fiberglas in the bottom of the center, 1.5 Meters long, 1m wide and 65 centimeters deep, in ft that should be around 5 x 31/2 x 21/4.
the saltwater basin at our watersportscenter has a 6ftx9ftx4ft.
dorados for bait:2-3lbs each
right translation, in english it is Bull’s Head.
here it is just the name for a beach area with 3 resorts and the mentioned Club Nauticus, where most of our yearly Billfish Tournaments start from.
HERE, means on the east coast of he Dominican Republic, Island named Hispaniola, area known as Punta Cana, 2nd biggest island of the caribbean, right besides Puerto Rico(of course much smaller, lol), west side of the Mona Channel and proudly the atlantics #1 spot for white marlin march-july, where a half a dozen in the spay at a time is nothing out of the ordinary.
i hope you guys are not bothered buy a guy bringing a report to this board without fishing off Charleston.
by the way, a description of the location would be appreciated.
have a great time and find all the big ones
hi Jay,
i have to get the blue pics by the end of the month, running on the 29ft’er at the moment, but 30th31st 1st and 2nd i will run the 42ft Bertram to target blue marlin, for me myself it will be the last trips on blues this year, sorrily other shedules in the way.
other question:
is there a preferences stuff where i can put in to get e-mail notification when a answer on a post been made?
when fishing myself i sorrily don’t have the time to surf the boards, i just check the e-mails early mornings and nighttime, but of course i want to answer to anything on the thread on time without a 2-3 days delay.
i did not find a point to do so in my profile/preferences stuff.
thanks
