Sunday Thanks

The Dawg Life report is only 2 dolphin. No action on ledge. Both caught in 140 ft. Getting the skunk out was pretty amazing considering we found the bilge completely full of water before we caught the 2 dolphin. If the boat that was talking to us on 68 as we had some trouble with water in the bilge is on here, THANK YOU! Pretty scary moment when we realized the back end was low in the water. Quick action by my crew saved a real disaster from happening. A spare bilge pump with clips on quickly hooked to the battery saved the boat while I was getting coordinates out on the radio. Issue turned out to be raw water wash down pump hose came off and was pumping water right into boat as the switch was turned on accidentally. Got water pumped out, found problem, decided to troll again knowing we knew the exact problem. Thank you again to whomever was helping us on the radio. My advice is never leave home with out spare pump and 10 ft hose. also keep buddying up. Can’t wait to get back out there.

That sounds terrible… I’m glad you guys made it back safely.

Good to hear, that is one of the scariest things to see offshore,(been there)get a high water alarm installed also.

Heard the CG on the vhf was wondering the outcome…

We’re you the boat the coast guard was calling in the am ? Heard them kept checking on 27 foot boat taking on water.

Nice job on the safety forethought.

That is scary stuff.

Glad you made it back safe.

Never called CG so not sure if they were talking about us or not. Our boat is a 23.5 Sailfish so not sure about the 27 ft. As bad as it was, we were able to get under control quickly. I had the spot in my hand and bout hit it though.

unfortunately on my boat a 5 gallon will not fit in the access hatch, but a 1 gallon will,i like having the alarm,it gives me plenty of warning if i ever experience that again.

Thanks Gut wrench on the high water alarm call. Getting one put in this week. I could not get a bucket in my hatches either. One of my crew cut the top off a liter of Gatorade bottle which worked as well.

I carry two back up bilges–very important to have. Glad you were prepared! Great idea on high water alarm–I’m going to install one of those as well.

Glad you are in safe! I had something similar happen to me in December. My wash down was not working and i thought the pump was bad, turns out the hose clamp came off right at the pump. Didn’t notice until i realized both of my bilge pumps were pumping in high volumes consistently. They barely were pumping out what the boat was pumping in. Got a high water alarm the day after. Its always something with these boats.

Question for anyone. If you get enough water in the bilge to cover the batteries, what will it do to sealed batteries? Will all your electronics/pumps stop working then and there? Are the batteries kaput for good, or are they OK if you get them out?

Were the bilge pumps not working? If they were, did you not notice the steady flow coming over the side before the bilge got full?

I’m only asking because it sounds like you have issues with the bilge pump or float switch as well.

Glad you’re safe and glad you kept your cool.

I don’t want to be rich,
I just want 1 dollar more than I can spend!

Had some similar issue’s on Monday. Put a new auto bilge in because the float on the other one was sticking. Still trying to figure out why we got so much water in the boat to begin with. High water alarm sound’s like a great idea. Oh the joys of boat ownership…

Good question. They were but spitting out water intermittently. I do not feel they worked the way they should have. funny thing is heading down 17 i see water start shooting out side of boat. Having Seels check those out and install the water alarm this week.
