Sunday Trout

Went to bed dreaming about sneaking out to fish while the wife and kids went to church Sunday. We overslept so church was out but I still got to fish for a little bit.

got to my spot and realized I left my bait bucket full of minnows at the house, was starting to think I was being punished for skipping church but learned it was just a test of my perserverance! The wind was blowing and I didn’t think I had much of a shot of catching anything with minnows nevermind with artificial.

I decided to try something different and put a Gulp jerk shad under a cork that was already setup on my rod. I would have rather a DOA or Gulp shrimp but the tackle bags running a bit light this time of year. Anyway, I work the cork hard for an hour and just as I’m about to give up I find this guy waiting for my tempting offer sitting under the dock I’m fishing. After a scary fight with a very tight drag, 10 lbs braid and oyster encrusted pilings I barely hauled this guy over the rail some 10’+ out of the water. Snapped a quick picture and tossed back in to catch another day.
