Alright, I’m going to ask for help. I fished the Wando Saturday. We were using mud minnows and shrimp under popping corks. I was fishing Zman smoky shad and original trout tricks. Not so much as a bite on artificial. We found a couple spots that had some small trout but generally speaking struck out. Are the trout holding in deeper water now rather than along grass banks? I feel like I should be doing better than I am when I see these killer reports.
They are holding on the bottom. If u r not bouncing the bottom then you are not where they are. Check you depth sounder for fish. They’ll be on the bottom or 1-2 ft above bottom.
I hope that would partially explain why we did so poorly Friday, although we tried everything . Caught 8 or 10; kept 2. We were blaming it on the front that came through Thursday night. Trout are the most unpredictable fish I know - salt or fresh. Next time we might smoke 'em.
I did not get a bite on Smokey Shad on my last trip. Bright colors seem to do better maybe because they on in deeper water…maybe just a guess really. I killed them with Electric Chicken on a Chartreuse 1/4 head

I don’t mean anything condescending by saying trout are VERY predictable per seasonal patterns. They show up in the same places every year per water temperatures and the calendar. The only things that change in my area are the size and overall numbers which is dictated by the severity of the winters.
Change grub colors, and location until you start catching fish! (Pressure mb) makes a big difference, in my view! Trout are very Finicky:smiley:
Agree with Raddaddy. Once you figure them out they are predictable. Just enjoy the learning process. Each bite tells something about what they are keying in on. Right now I believe they will hit any fish imitation. They aren’t keyed in on shrimp as that is sparse now.
I’ll give something like electric chicken (brighter colors) next time. With that cold front coming through Friday, I doubt I’ll be on the water this coming weekend. Brrrr. Thanks for the advice fellas.
I had better hookup ratio and bigger fish with a slow, steady retrieve in the middle of the water column in 4-8 feet. Caught 40 on Friday and 60 on Sunday. Most fish near the bottom were dinks. Pearl with green chartreuse tail, opening night, and gold flake.
