Sunglasses...yet again

More specifically, lens tints and mirrors
More, more specifically, Smith Optics lens tints and mirrors

Polarchromic Copper (13-20% VLT), Polarchromic Copper Mirror (13-20%), Techlite Brown (15%), or Techlite Brown w/ Green Mirror (12%)? Do any of y’all wear these inshore here in SC?

If you care about the rest:
I have some Maui Jims and they’re awesome, but the lenses are too dark for early and late in the day or days when it’s not all out blasting sun. I used to have a pair of Smith Optics with the Polarchromic Copper lenses. I liked them better than the Maui Jims because they fit better and the lens color was more versatile. However, they made an unfortunate disappearance following a wedding reception last year. Those Smith Optics Touchstone I had fit better than any other sunglasses I’ve ever had. Now I want another pair again, but I’m considering getting a different lens this time for some reason. I guess my thinking is that maybe one of the others is better than what I had and really liked already.

I also know about the different companies’ lens selectors. However, SC inshore doesn’t necessarily equal Costa Del Mar inshore, etc. That’s why I’m asking for local experiences and not just going by what the company’s website says.

I’m open to comments on these same lens colors (Copper and Brown) if made by different manufacturers. But in the end I’m 95% sure I’ll be buying Smith Optics again. One of those 4 lenses mentioned in the Touchstone frames.

I’m thinking their green mirror will be too dark, and similar to the way the Maui Jim I have now function.

I have a pair of Smiths and love them. Even more however are the 3 pair of Sunclouds I have. I have a couple with the gold mirror lenses and they really cut the glare off the water. They have a great warranty and the best part…you can buy them for $50 or less. I find that I wear them over the Smiths, Natives and Costas I have.

I read that Sunclouds are made by Smiths ??

Yes they are.

I’ve almost bought a pair of Sunclouds instead. My only hold up is that I seem to be hell on polycarbonate lenses and have never had a poly lens go more than a couple weeks without getting scratched.

I have a pair of Smiths Guides Choice with the Techlite Copper polarchromatic glass lenses. I really like them and wear them most all the time. The variable tint allows me to wear them from a little earlier in the morning to a little later in the evening, as opposed to a single tint lens.

These are the second pair of Smiths I have had. I shattered my first pair after several years by my own fault. I called the company and was told they didn’t make that current frame anymore, so they let me have my pick from anything for $70, which is how I ended up with my current pair. Pretty good service on their part, especially since I told them it was my fault I broke the firts pair.

That’s exactly what happened to my first pair and I bought the replacements for $70 or $80. Those disappeared and they said they needed at least a piece of the sunglasses to offer the same thing again. Can’t blame them for that.

EDIT: just happened to stumble on some Touchstone w/ the green mirror on ebay, tags and all on them, for $81 to my door. If they are darker lenses than I wanted should be able to resell them for that.
