Headed to Sunset Aug 6. Any give me some hints on surfishing Bird Island? Baits, time, tackle. Have a couple of boys that want to fish. Have no boat so surf only unless you know of a spot to get on a creek or waterway somehow
Thx

I’ve never fished on Bird Island; however, I’ve fished the surf alot in the North Myrtle area. The ole standby is a two hook bottom rig with pieces of fresh shrimp or cut bait. Use the lightest pyramid sinker the current will allow and experiment with a variety of hook sizes. I think the best times are a couple of hours before through a couple of hours after the tide change. I hope you and your boys have a great time.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge…Proverbs 1:7
For any creeks or flats hunting flounder and redfish. Mud minnow/mullet/DOA on carolina rigg/ poping cork.
For Pompano: in the surf use shrimp where the surf breaks(shallow) 2hrs before and after high tide. Use 1/4o jighead or use below setup
For shark/reds: use live mullet , dual hooks, hooked through eye socket. and 5o weight and throw it far (Deep)on falling to low tide.2/0-3/o circle hooks.
You can get to the back of bird island from the beach, but it looks to be a walk to me. If you go to the end of the houses on the north side, you can fish around the last dock. There is a bit of a hole there, and it holds fish sometimes. We caught several keeper flounder there a few weeks ago using carolina rigs and linesiders or buglemouths. Im sure mud minnows and finger mullet will do the same job.
Thanks guys!
Still open to suggestions but these are a big help
Now I get to worry about TS Emily. Probably stir things a bunch
Nah, you gonna be just fine. TS Emily aint gonna do anything more than the 100 deg. days have done. Heck, it may even push in some clean water(as if). Good luck, and have fun.
