Rolled out of Dewees on the poledancer around 6:00am in hopes to put the smack down on some monster reds. Went to jig up some cigar minnows, but no luck? We settled with pinfish and several other bottom dwellers. After getting a substantial amount of bait we then had to dodge many big storms to get to the snapper hole. Then it was a series of getting down poured on and taking close calls at lighting!!! Finally it was time to get started. Found some live bottom in 100 feet of water. First drop? BANG! 25 pounder in the box. With everyone celebrating the day was looking of high hopes. Dropped 4 lines back down and all but one were taken by sharks. Put the drag all the way up and horsed them to the boat. While this happened the rod that was not hit was then smashed and tangled with the sharks at the boat. Had to cut a few lines but it sure payed off! That rod that was tangled and left alone by sharks, was a 31 pound red snapper!!! VERY VERY VERY fortunate to put him in the box. The next few drops were sharks, vermillion, and black sea bass. Didn’t see another red snapper for around an hour, until the current changed. When the current changed it was on once again. Dropped back down and BOOM!!! An 18 pounder hit the deck. Many smiles & hi-fives were given. The next 10-15 drops were nothing but sharks. Moved a couple hundred yards away from the frenzy and dropped back down. BOOM! Judging by the hit & fight we looked at each other with smiles. Sure enough it was another monster. 25 pounder! Then it was on to a series of catching jaws again. Kept dropping into the frenzy until we caught two more 18 pound studs. Bite was red hot for big reds if you were able to get passed the sharks. With everyone extremely satisfied on the poledancer we turned the music all the way up and headed to the house. Finished the day with 6 stud red snapper, 5 vermillion, and several sea bass we let live another day. Till’ tomorrow?
I’ve never seen so many large red snapper in one photo. Nice haul!!!

Another one bites the dust? Decided to hold off due to the storms this morning and plan on the afternoon bite. So when 4:00 came and the storms were gone the poledancer left the dock. Got some live bait and headed back to the snapper hole. We were short on time so we had an hour to grind hard. First drop… BAM! Big red hits the deck. The next few drops were nothing but sharks. Moved a few hundred yards to some more live bottom and dropped. BAM! Another red snapper hits the deck. Pretty good for an hour? Decided that was a good note to leave on… One thing is for sure the poledancer is prepared for next weekend!!! On a side note - we were the boys running through the creeks in litchfield haha. The hot dogs are used for the minnow trap. Appreciate the love guys.

Well, let me ask…what the technique for catching red snapper instead of say…bsb or b-liners? Is it more of a location thing where you fish a good spot or is it the way you fish?
I’ve caught only one smallish red snapper and it was during the restriction and I had to throw him back - you guys seem to have it dialed in. How are you doing it?
